Nothing But Love in Her Heart

Oct 04

The surgical consult went well.  Like, really well.  We loved the doctor, and more importantly, Fallon loved him.  She can be a nervous mess of messy nerves in the doctor’s office.  She started out that way.  Even in the waiting room, she was a shaky mess.  When we were called into the exam room and the doc eventually came in, he sat on the floor to talk to her and us.  Gradually, she relaxed, and moved closer to him, and eventually, he was full-on petting her and she was calm and kissy.

He laid out the case for amputation, and said there’s no wrong answer when it comes to amputating or not.  This would be on us to decide.  But he reinforced (as we’ve heard here) that age is just a number, the vast, vast vast majority of dogs do just great on 3, front leg doesn’t matter and WE’D BE TAKING AWAY HER PAIN…not necessarily her cancer. He could do the surgery next week.  He told us to feel more confident about the recovery period (we’re still going to be prepared for anything).  We decided to sleep on it, but were leaning pretty hard toward the surgery.

Woke up this morning—nothing changed, we’re still all over this.  Called to set it up.

Surgeon’s office called right back.  It was someone from the business office.  We walked out without paying our bill yesterday.  Whoops.  We are definitely not on our game these days.  Paid by phone.  Boo me.

Amputation is scheduled for a week from today—Wednesday, October 11.  Chills.

Off to find an Oncologist…the surgeon gave us a list.  We live in the capital of New York State.  Closest oncologist on the list is an hour and 45 minutes away?  Nonetheless…

More to come…

    Smooching the paws!!!

‘Been waiting for your update and sooooo glad it went “well”! Having a plan and moving forward does give a sensemp of some relief. I jniw it’s still very scary. I actually cancelled my Happy Hannah’s scheduled surgery (before I found this site) because I was scared out of my mind!! Petrified doesn’t even begin to describe it! Within a week she went from limping to holding her leg up. I rescheduled. Best decision ever!! Once recovery was over she was pain free and happy as could be!

Love how Fallon connected with the Surgeon. We’ll take that as a good sign!

Continue tomlet Fallon be yiur role model on hlw to love in the NOW and enjoy the bliss of BEING MORE DOG!

We’ll be cheering for sweet Fallon…And looking forward to more great oictures of this sweet loving girl!

    Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Ditto to Sally! Love the pic with all paws! Soon the painful one will no longer be a worry! I know its hard to imagine Fallon hopping on 3 not 4, but if you haven’t already, check out the videos on the site of all the tripawds. That’s what I did the night before Kylie’s surgery & that solidified my decision. Best decision ever! It was soooo nice to see my girl hopping along within a few days & happy as can be, instead of limping, holding up a paw and looking so uncomfortable & panting in pain. I felt so helpless. Amputation gave her a 2nd chance & chemo gave her about 7 extra months vs amputation alone. FYI It was a 2hr drive to see the oncologist every couple weeks for chemo & check ups. Also best decision ever & worth it.
Good luck & try not to stress this week! Read threads about how to prep the house etc.!

Good luck beautiful girl! You are going to rock it! You’ll want to run for miles when that nast, painful leg comes off, but stay close to your bed for the next couple of weeks okay?! And tell Mum and Dad to sleep when you do…
Stewie is now 3 months post amp (left front leg) and he is hoppily hopping around like he did months and months ago!
It’s tough at first, but Fallon will teach you all about living in the Now!
    Sloppy kisses from Stewie👅 🐕 🐾
